How does the SureSmile® journey work at Smile Club?

Your SureSmile® journey is completely tailored to you.

Planning your treatment

After a thorough examination, we can plan your SureSmile® journey using the latest technology. 3D imaging software can be used to predict the outcome of treatment before you even start, making for a highly accurate end result.

Creating your aligners

Impressions (moulds) of your teeth are taken digitally, so your SureSmile® aligners can be made by the dedicated SureSmile® lab. Once we receive them back, you’re ready to start.

Straightening your teeth

The aligners are worn by you at home for 22 hours each day and usually changed every 2 weeks. On-going consultations during the treatment period will help us keep an eye on your smile’s progress.

The benefits of SureSmile®

The benefits of a fantastic smile are priceless when it comes to your confidence and wellbeing. Studies have shown that straight teeth can help boost career prospects, and even improve your dating life!

Straight teeth are also healthy teeth. When your teeth sit well in your mouth and remain free of unnatural gaps, they’re easier to clean and therefore less prone to problems like gum disease and decay. So not only is SureSmile® good for improving the appearance of your smile and boosting your confidence, it can benefit the health of your teeth and gums.

Common concerns

what can SureSmile® fix?

  • Crowded teeth

    Crowded teeth

Crowded teeth is a condition where you do not have enough room for your teeth to fit normally. This can cause plaque, tartar and other harmful bacteria to build up as it is harder for you to brush and floss well.

  • Gaps between teeth

    Gaps between teeth

Gaps between teeth is when there is extra space between two or more of your teeth. This can cause pockets between your teeth and gums where food gets stuck, making them tender and sore. This might also lead to gum disease.

  • Open bite

    Open bite

An open bite is when your upper and lower teeth don’t touch when you close your mouth. An open bite can make it hard for you to chew or difficult to bite even the most common of food like apples.

  • Underbite

    Underbite

An underbite is when you close your mouth and your lower front teeth are in front of your upper teeth. An underbite can make it hard to chew properly and speak clearly, and it might cause your teeth to wear down more quickly.

  • Overbite

    Overbite

An overbite is when your upper front teeth overlap with your lower front teeth. Most people have at least a little overbite. When it is too large, it can cause problems, from your teeth wearing down to pain in your jaw.

  • Crossbite

    Crossbite

A crossbite is when you close your mouth and some of your upper teeth sit inside your lower teeth rather than on the outside. A crossbite can make your teeth wear down or chip, and can make your gums start to recede.

FAQs

your questions, answered.

Ask us something else
What is the treatment process?

SureSmile® treatment starts with a consultation with a SureSmile®-trained dentist, who will evaluate your smile and map out a precise, customised digital treatment plan showing the step-by-step transformation of your smile. Once you approve your plan, your unique aligners will be created. You will wear each set of aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day, changing to a new set every 1 to 2 weeks as directed by your dentist.

How long does SureSmile® treatment take?

The length of treatment depends on how complex your case is and how often you wear your aligners. Simple cases can be completed in as little as 6 months, though you’ll start seeing results in a matter of weeks. Your dentist will tell you how long your treatment is likely to take at your consultation.

What are SureSmile® clear aligners made of?

SureSmile® clear aligners are made of a flexible, clear thermoplastic. They are virtually invisible and are trimmed based on your gum line for comfort and appearance.

How will SureSmile® straighten my teeth?

Your dentist creates a unique, digital treatment plan that maps out the exact movements of your teeth. Your aligners are then designed to apply the right amount of force to the right place at the right time. We will be with you every step of the way to monitor your progress and ensure your aligners fit correctly.

Am I guaranteed to have straight teeth?

Every smile is unique, which is why your treatment starts with a consultation. We cannot guarantee a particular treatment outcome, but we encourage you to share your goals with your dentist so we can explain what SureSmile® could do for your smile.

Could SureSmile® be right for me?

SureSmile® can be a great solution for both adults and teens looking for a virtually invisible way to improve their smile. It can address many common teeth-straightening and bite issues without interrupting your busy life.

What should I expect during my consultation?

Your dentist will discuss your teeth-straightening goals and examine your smile to determine your specific needs. They will also talk to you about how quickly you could reach your new smile and your individual treatment cost. We may recommend a check-up and hygiene visit before you begin, to make sure your teeth and gums are in top health.

How often will I have appointments?

We will schedule regular appointments, usually about once every four to six weeks, to make sure your treatment is progressing as planned.

What are “attachments” and will I need them?

Attachments are small tooth-coloured shapes bonded to some teeth. They act as handles, giving the aligners something to push on so they can move your teeth with the right amount of force. Not everyone needs them; if you do, we will place them at the start of or during treatment and remove them when they are no longer needed.

How much does SureSmile® cost?

Like other types of orthodontic treatment, the price depends on the complexity of your case. Single-jaw treatment starts from £1,679, and finance options are available from £2.50 per day.

I’ve had braces before and my teeth have shifted. Can SureSmile® help?

Yes, many people who formerly had braces choose clear aligners as a discreet way to improve their smile when they find their teeth have shifted back.

I have veneers, crowns or bridgework. Will aligners work?

It depends. Talk to your dentist about the dental work you’ve had done and they will evaluate your individual needs. Because bridgework connects two or more teeth, clear aligners may not be effective for those teeth.

Can anyone tell that I’m wearing aligners?

SureSmile® aligners are virtually invisible, so others may not even notice you’re wearing them.

Can I take my aligners out whenever I need to?

Yes, you can remove your aligners for eating, drinking, brushing and flossing, or for special occasions. Just remember to wear them 20 to 22 hours a day to get the best results.

Are there any restrictions on what I can eat?

None, the aligners are removable, so you take them out for meals and snacks. Brush your teeth before putting them back in to avoid staining.

Is SureSmile® treatment painful?

SureSmile® moves your teeth with gentle, constant force. Some people feel temporary pressure for the first few days of wearing a new set of aligners, that’s normal and a sign the aligners are working. Please let us know if you have any concerns or continued discomfort.

Will aligners affect my speech?

It may take a couple of days for your tongue to get used to your aligners, and you may have a slight lisp at first. This should disappear quickly.

Can I chew gum or smoke while wearing aligners?

No, gum will stick to your aligners, and smoking can stain them. Remove your aligners for all meals and snacks.

What’s the best way to clean my aligners?

Brush and rinse them in lukewarm water, using cleaning crystals or special cleaning tablets. Brush your teeth after each meal before putting your aligners back in.

What if I lose or break an aligner?

Let us know straight away. We will help you stay on track, which may involve wearing a previous set, moving to your next set, or ordering replacements.

Will I need a retainer after treatment?

Yes, we recommend that anyone who has completed orthodontic treatment uses a retainer to stop teeth gradually shifting back. Smile Club patients receive complimentary retainers, and we will explain how often to wear them, typically full time at first, then only at night.
