When a tooth is badly broken, heavily filled or weakened after root canal treatment, a crown can protect it and restore its shape. Where a tooth is missing, a bridge can fill the gap by anchoring a replacement tooth to the teeth on either side.
What is a crown?
A crown is a custom-made cap that covers the whole visible part of a tooth. It is made to match the shape and shade of your natural teeth, so it blends in with your smile while protecting the tooth underneath.
What is a bridge?
A bridge replaces one or more missing teeth with a false tooth held in place by crowns on the neighbouring teeth. It is fixed in place, so unlike a denture it doesn’t need to be taken out for cleaning.
Looking after your crown or bridge
Look after your crown or bridge just as you would your natural teeth:
- Brush twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste.
- Clean between your teeth every day, including under your bridge.
- Keep up your regular check-ups and hygienist appointments.
How much do crowns and bridges cost?
Crowns start from £600 and bridges from £645, depending on the size, the finish and the number of teeth involved. 0% finance is available on individual treatments (subject to status), see all of our fees.
